Workshops and Classes with Jody Ochs
With over 21 years experience as a jewelry artist, and am now offering private instruction to those professionals wishing to learn or improve their metal smith skills, or assistance in setting up their studio. My studio is now mobile, so check to see if I am in your area, or ask if I can come to your location. I will be in the Rio Grande Valley for most of the winter, beginning the second week in January.

No Experience Necessary ~
Hand fabricate a sterling silver ring with or without a gemstone or matching bands for couples. For your an engagement; for your anniversary; for yours or a loved one’s birthday; a new beginnings (divorce?) ring; make granddaughter rings for their birthdays; mother and daughter rings.
This 8 hour class, taught in 2, four hour days is $350 per person and includes all of your supplies and tools. A maximum of 2 students allows for total focus from the instructor.
You will learn how to hand fabricate a silver ring . You may bring your own gems, or choose from selected gems available from the instructor. As you make the ring, you’ll use a variety of basic jewelry metal fabrication techniques including sawing, forming, texturing and stone setting. At the end of the 8 hour class, you’ll take home a finished ring.

Hand fabricate a hammered sterling silver circle pendant with or without a gemstone. This 8 hour class, is taught in 2, four hour days is $350 per person and includes all of your supplies and tools. A maximum of 2 students allows for total focus from the instructor. Description: You will learn how to hand fabricate a sterling silver continuous circle with texture and selected gems. You may bring your own gemstone, or use one available from the instructor. As you make the pendant, you’ll use a variety of jewelry metal working techniques including forming, sawing, texturing and stone setting. At the end of the 8 hour class, you’ll take home a finished pendant. Chains are not included, but may be purchased from the instructor.
For professionals or those seeking a career as studio Jewelry Artist
BASIC FABRICATION - 3 or 5 day workshops available.
This is a beginners 101 class. Learn how to cut, saw, pierce and solder. The 3 day workshop is a class to learn the basics, not for making a finished piece. Extending it to a 5 day workshop will include at least one finished piece of jewelry.
CONNECTIONS - 3 day
Develop your your jewelry fabrication skills in this workshop and learn solutions to connecting separate components. Students draw their project first and we will discuss the necessary steps to completion before beginning. Learn to make bezel settings for unusually shaped stones, add hinges or solder components together to form a completed piece. Students may choose to make a ring, pendant, bracelet or earrings in this workshop. Beginning metal smithing skills are required for this course.
In this class students will learn both syn-clast and and anti-clast hollow forming. Shell forming and spiculum forming. 3 or 5 day workshops available. Focus is on learning the technique, not making a finished piece. Students with prior forming experience or extremely adept may take the process to a finished piece.
DESIGNING OR IMPROVING YOUR STUDIO
If you are just starting out and wanting to design your studio for maximum efficiency and safety, or simply want help in a certain area of fabrication -- I am available to travel to your studio to help you set up and execute minor or major fabrication. Fees are $500. a day plus travel, food, and accommodations. To keep expenses down, I am willing to stay in your home, provided I will have a private bedroom and bath. This is an intensive, so to maximize your expenditure, I am at your disposal while there. 10 hour days maximum, with reasonable breaks.
